WHAT

Through the appropriation of cartoon characters, the juxtaposition of two seemingly opposite worlds, and the projection of pop icons’ secret dreams on canvas, this series asserts pop art against abstraction, perpetuating a pictorial realism based on the detournement of preexisting artworks and symbols. The subject matter of the paintings is echoed by the words inserted in the background.

Qu’il s’agisse de se réapproprier des personnages de dessins animés, de juxtaposer deux mondes a priori opposés ou de projeter sur toiles les rêves secrets des icônes pop, cette série prolonge le pop art et, en s’opposant à l’abstraction, perpétue un certain réalisme pictural qui passe par le détournement d’œuvres et de symboles préexistants. En témoignent ces mots que Greg Guillemin insère en arrière-plan afin de faire écho au sujet de la toile.
